About a week ago, we received the biggest single personal donation yet. We decided a while back that we’re not going to publish the amounts donated, but only the sum of all donations. Every donation counts, no matter if its 5, 50 or 500 €. What makes this donation special is the way it was made.
Our friend Steffen donated us a fair amount of money, but here’s what makes this special: Instead of giving us just a one time sum, Steffen committed to send us some money monthly for as long as the trip lasts. This blew our mind and opens a boatload of opportunity for us while greatly reducing risk. Right now what we’re doing is to budget for a year using a lump sum of savings and donations we’re raising right now. Once we’re on the road, we will have no income and no means to generate income should it be necessary. (The trip is about focusing on donating our full attention and manpower to charity)
Knowing that there will be a certain amount of income each month while we’re on the road gives us a great deal of security because it reduces our risk of miscalculating. Our budget is rather detailed, based on information we get from former volunteers in Belize and revised regularly when we get new info. The budget it tight (this is not a 1 year pleasure cruise after all) but I am pretty confident that it won’t be too far off. Plus, we’ve gotten a lot of practice in living a rather frugal lifestyle lately. It is still very good to know that there are guys out there who support us and that there will be some cash flow coming in each month.
If you consider donating, please think about if you’d rather donate a one time sum or if a smaller amount as sponsorship, spread out over the course of our trip as a standing bank order is an option for you. As with all the donations we account for them seperately and make sure they are used only for costs directly related to the projects where they make a difference.
A big thank you goes out to Steffen and all private and corporate sponsors who follow him. As of now (end of April – 2 months to go), we’re about 5500 € short of our fundraising goal, which means we can pull this off with just 20 sponsors donating not even 25€ per month.
Thank you so much,
your future adoptee yuppies,
Kerstin and Holger
Vielen Dank im Vorraus!
Eure zukünftigen Patenyuppies,
