The Belize Red Cross is a Movement. And Movements move. In our case from office to office. To be more precise: From our ‘new’ building (rented from the Sisters of Mercy at St. Catherines Girl School; right at the ocean), to our ‘old’ building (burnt and restored after an arson attach in Decemeber 2010; still in the touristy area but well more ‘centrally’ located).
The biggest changes are more space for everybody, hardly any parking (which doesn’t matter for me anyway), crooket floors and no more A/C but a lot of ceiling fans. Ahja.. and everytime someone flushes the toilet the sewage tank (right under our window) shares a little quize with us what that person might have digested for the last three days. At least it is not “some dead rats across the fence next door”. Urgs..
But well. It was a case of “democracy happened” and most of the staff members wanted to move back to the old building. Mainly because “people have known this place for so long and expect us to be there” (yes, none of the 2633788 signs that we put up that said that we have moved survived longer than 2 days because people/kids just rip it apart.. for no reason) and “the break ins will get less if they know someone is in the building” (yes, someone and a few pieces of electronic equipment). And the financial advantage. That’s a fair one.
Anyway. So we are now at 1 Gabourel Lane and no longer on the Marine Parade. I still get to the gym and Holgers office by foot. The first days have been fine. As long as the sweat-smell-ratio does not increase any further, I’m quite happy with my new office. No more sitting right next to the entrance door (meaning no more vision on your screen everytime someone opens the door after 3pm and the sun is blazing on it). And even the walk to Moonclusters is not that far anymore :-) So, let’s this new episode begin!!
We moved from here….
