When we moved to Frankfurt in 2006, we merged our two student flats. Back then, we had a lot of stuff. We have a lot more now. Most of the stuff we have, we consider dead weight that makes us slow, so we're selling almost everything of it - on ebay, amazon and by going to a big local flea market every saturday between now and either the day of our departure or the day our appartment is empty, whichever happens first. We had one flea market on saturday plus a special equestrian horse and kid's garage sale at Kerstin's stables on sunday. We (Kerstin, that is) started on Friday by using a stack of old frames we had laying around for framing portraits of all the horses at...

Belize is hell ... or is it?

I just stumbled upon a blog article by a bloke who spent 2 weeks in Belize city in 1983 entitled Two weeks in hell. Belize City, Belize. Quote: The “city” in Belize City is a scandalous misuse of the word “city”. From now on I will refer to the place as “Belize Shithole” as this new appellation more accurately describes this stain on the planet. Now luckily, none of our research gives reason at all to belive that it is still like that, but the article gives a rather entertaining impression of how it must have been like for this guy. Let's hope it has improved a bit? ;-) PS: There also another very interesting article on that blog about a picture he took called The ...

From Kiev with love

Kerstin and I took a weekend to visit two friends of ours in Kiev. Uwe and Denis are both professional photographers, so we took our new photo gear hoping they would teach us some of the basics we are still missing. The both very patiently showed us how stuff works and I am sure we will think a lot about the photographic lessons learned in Kiev on our trip. We also had a great time jamming with friends, as you can see in the pictures. Uwe gave me some valuable ideas on what to play during the cowboy gig and I got to practice daily - important to get my fingers ready to play those 6 hours on April 16th. The whole weekend mood was somewhat tilted when I got the news...

Vaccinations and medical prep

Vaccinations Yesterday we had an appoinrtment with a specialist for tropical disease and inoculation. We're both still pretty flu-shaken, but we still went for a prep talk. Here's what we need for Belize: Yellow Fever Rabies (3 shots) Hepatitis A+B Tetanus I knew the guy from 2003 when I was about to embark on 6 months of backpacking through South-America. Back then he gave me a huge and scary talk on the various ways of dying in the jungle. It was way more pleasent this time around - appearently most risks are connected to the way you live, i.e. a backpacking hippie-punk looking forward to sleep on beaches seems to be more at risk than an all grown-up (ha...

So we're both sick at home with the flu and trying to make the best of it. We went for a little walk today to play around with the new camera equipment. Slowly getting the hang of it (even better now that Dennis explained to me what the difference is between AF and Servo-AF.... ;-) [album: http://holgerheinze.de/sr/wp-content/plugins/dm-albums/dm-albums.php?currdir=/wp-content/uploads/dm-albums/2011-03-19-Playing with the Camera/]
