Hello from the road. This time around, I'm in Portland, Oregon on business. I will write down my impressions from here, since it was last year in the US (OK, california, not oregon) where we had the idea for our trip. So, I'm back in the US of A where I spent 6 months in 2010 living in San Francisco. The time lived there changed a lot about how I see the world - on a large and very small scale. And the assignment in 2010 also brought me to Portland before. So here it goes, my thoughts about Portland and San Francisco.

Singing Cowboy Showdown

Yesterday was the day: Yard sale and Holger buskin' as a singing cowboy from 10:00 till 16:00. It was an incredible success. I had been practicing guitar for at least one hour per day for a little over two weeks, amongst other things to condition my fingers to thicken their skin so that I would be able to actually play the guitar for this long. I also got some requests a few days beforehand and I sure as hell didn't want to let those guys down so I looked up those songs and practiced them as much as I could. (Before this gig...

We are very happy to report that donations are starting to come in -via the website, offline and via bank transfers (saves the paypal fee). We also received quite a few "substitute" donations. What's that? April is no spend month which means I don't spend money. This includes a lot of things that would normally just go out of the pocket like that: Parking Snacks and drinks Squash court fee Paying for leaving the sauna too late (the 2-hour-coupons were already purchased months ago but you have to top up if you relaxed too long) Lunch Ausserdem haben wir einige "Ersatzspen...

I just received 4 laminated A3 posters for the upcoming flea market and fundraising events. And best of all: the really cool printer dude didn't charge me anything. After he read the posters, he deceided to donate them. How cool is that?! Sehr cool.

Just a short note from the weekend. The sell out it well under way and I went to the flea market with Sunny on saturday who helped me wrangle with the crazy bargain vultures. Flear market basically means packing two cars full of stuff, rushing them to the flea market right after spanish lesson to make it there on time and unpack the two cars in 15 minutes. Couldn't have done it without Sunny. My mom and Uwe were there too (they had a booth next to us) and shot us with squirt guns once in a while which was somewhat pleasent in the burning sun. The bottom line was financially OK, though not as good as last weekend. Still, we made some dough for the trip fund and we actually...

Was ist wohltätig an Tourismus? What's charitable about tourism?

Yesterday, my revised job description came in from the BTIA - Belize Tourism Industry Association. I will be working for them as a "revenue consultant". Purpose of Placement Assist the organisation in developing financial stability through investigating sources of income used by other similar organisations and recommending new structures and revenue streams. (Quote) So you will find new ways to make hotels more money, or what? What's charitable about that? Everything. Tourism is a big chance for a country like Belize. On a larger scale, tourism can diversify the economy, lessen dependence on agriculture (very important if you're in a place where hurrica...
