May 8th is World Red Cross Day. And so the Belize Red Cross opened its doors to the public to show all the major services that we provide. 7 school classes alone came and learned a lot about the Red Cross and the 7 fundamental principles of the Red Cross Movement. The classes got a brief walk through the office and each department had prepared a little game and/or demonstation for them.
Our Disaster Risk Reduction department showed them all kind of information with maps, pictures from past disaster relief activities and information on hurricanes, tsunamis and earthquakes. Then we had a little quiz to have the kids interactively learn about disaster preparedness like what to pack in a hurricane kit, what causes wildfires etc. The winning team even got some cool pencils as a souvenir. =)
Overall the day was a full success to show the public all the services the Belize Red Cross has to offer.
