After what some may consider careers in consulting and logistics, we quit our jobs, sold our stuff and left Germany to be full-time travelers and development volunteers. This blog is about our travels, our work as volunteers and our alternative life strategies - always looking to make an impact and to find the meaning in what we do or put some into it if we can't find any. -

Workshop on Caye Caulker, Black Eye on Ambergris Caye
Early in december I went over to Caye Caulker to facilitate a strategic workshop with the Caye Caulker Branch of the BTIA.
(Consulting blabla following – scroll down to the photos if you don’t play bullshit bingo regularly.)
This strategic workshop was all about using their SWOT analysis (which they had already done before) as a basis for a strategic plan with feasible work products and quick results.
We based the workshop on a “sustainable tourism development framework” that I drafted while here in Belize – basically an attempt to answer this question: “What can we do to prevent unsustainable growth of tourism with a negative impact on the local economy and ecology and make the positive impact last?”
Here are some snapshots from the framework:

The workshop was well received and the Caye Caulker Gang took us to the “Split” afterwards for some refreshments.

Joanna, Tom, Stacy and Efren having well-deserved drinks after an all day workshop.

The split is one of my favorite spots in Belize.

Spontaneous dancing in the sunset.

The split from the plane after I took off.
I took a plane over to San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, and kept on partying there friday night. It was a good party, as far as I recall.
Kerstin came over the next morning on a water taxi. As she looks at me she says: What’s wrong with your face?
I didn’t know, so I went to have a look at the mirror. This is what I found:

No idea what happened. All bars I had been to said that there hadn’t been a fight.
Oh well. We had a presentation to give around noon – first time I delivered a presentation in shorts and with a black eye. Also unshaven and hungover but I’ve done that before. It went well.
Afterwards we just hung out on Ambergris Caye.

We took the first water taxi over in monday morning and went straight to work:

How about you. Ever woke up with a black eye and had no idea what happened?
